Having Depression? Then Watch This!
Genre: Comedy/Romance
IMDB: 8.3/10
Letterboxd: 4.1/5
My Score: 4/5
Hi dear fellows! I hope you are all doing alright. I know that there have been months since I have written my last movie review and I have no valid excuse for that. Last May, I realized I had slowly started to lose interest in watching movies. Regardless of the quality or genre of the movie I watched, I wasn’t enjoying my experience. However, a few weeks ago, I noticed I didn’t lose my interest in cinema, but Hollywood movies. As a result, I decided to focus on world cinema, instead of watching Hollywood movies. Thus, I made a watchlist about world cinema and started to watch it. Eventually, it worked and now I am watching movies again.
I really don’t know how to start. When I was surfing on Letterboxd, I saw a review that was saying “the movie equivalent of being hugged,” and I totally agree with it. The movie was one of the most positive movies I have ever watched. Jean-Pierre Jeunet’s, director, Paris is extremely different from ours. Instead of watching one of the largest and most crowded metropoles in the world, we’re watching a city full of warm-hearted people. When this city combines with the imagination of Amelie and the fabulous songs of the movie, by Yann Tiersen, we obtain a very fun and warm movie.
If I have to talk briefly about the movie, our main character, Amelie, has numerous childhood traumas and had a childhood without parental love. Since she was homeschooled in her childhood, she couldn’t develop enough social skills to build a healthy social environment for herself. Instead, she developed astonishing creativity and imagination. Therefore, she has an extremely colorful world. The real storyline begins when Amelie notices the satisfaction when she helps other people.
To be honest, I can’t find negative things to talk about in the movie. The movie was really fun, containing many plot twists, and has its own distinct universe from ours, which makes it more intriguing to watch. As I mentioned before, we’re literally watching an alternate universe’s Paris. The movie’s effect on me was similar to Forrest Gump’s. Both movies are like therapy movies for me. If I want to be happy or I am in a depressed mood, I open Forrest Gump to feel good again. Now, Amelie is also on my list.
The colors used in movies, scenes, lights, and especially songs were amazing. I am still listening to its songs.
My favorite scene in the movie was, by far, the scene when Amelie helped a blind guy who was trying to cross the road. To me, it was where the real storyline begins.
I hope you are all satisfied with my review. I know it was shorter than my usual reviews, but I don’t know what should I say more about Amelie(2001). I literally have no problem with the movie at all.
Since I have written my last movie review, I have watched numerous movies. I am planning to write reviews about them in the following days. Moreover, I decided to write book reviews too. Thereby, I am planning to write my first ever book review next week.
If you liked my review, please don’t hesitate to click the clap button. Moreover, I would be extremely gladful if you make comment on it too, so we can discuss the movie :).
