9 Most Anticipated Movies of 2022
As we move into a new year, it is like a tradition for cinema lovers to check new year’s most anticipated and popular movies. I really wish to write this blog on new year’s eve, however, since I started to write my blog in March 2022, it wasn’t possible for me. However, it wasn’t an obstruct for me so I decided to write a blog about the 9 most anticipated movies of 2022 which will release after March 2022. Therefore, you will not see movies like The Batman, Turning Red, or Uncharted because they were already released before this date. Anyway, let’s talk about the most anticipated upcoming movies of 2022, after March.
Note: Although I am eagerly awaiting all the films I have written below, I have listed the movies from the least expected to the most anticipated for me. So the order of the movies is the product of my subjective idea.
9)Black Panther: Wakanda Forever
(November 11, 2022)
To be honest, Black Panther is not one of my favorite MCU series. Although I love Black Panther, I am not into watching solo movies of super-heroes, of course, there are some exceptions. I watched the first Black Panther movie in the cinema and even though the movie was generally satisfied its audience, it is still not one of my favorite super-hero movies. Maybe it is because I am starting to bored from watching super-hero movies I don’t know… Anyway, I am anticipating watching Black Panther: Wakanda Forever because I am really looking forward to finding out how will Marvel continue the Black Panther series after the heartbroken death of Chadwick Boseman in 2020. Chadwick Boseman was maybe one of the most suitable actors for playing Black Panther in the world and, unfortunately, now he is gone. I believe, it’ll be very hard for Marvel to replace Chadwick Boseman with another actor and it is also may be harder for the audience to accept a different actor as Black Panther. I am really wondering how they will solve it.
8)Doctor Strange: Multiverse of Madness
(May 6, 2022)
Being the first Marvel movie after Spiderman No Way Home, the expectations for “ Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” is quite a lot. Directed by Sam Raimi, as we can remember him from his successful works in the original Spiderman Trilogy in the early 2000s, the new Doctor Strange movie will give us more detail about MCU’s new multiverse universe. We’ll see Scarlett Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) in the movie so it is a continuation story of the Wandavision series. Since the movie is taking the subject of the Multiverse, it is highly possible for us to see new characters in MCU. Due to the movie being directed by Sam Raimi, who is one of my favorite directors, I am really looking forward to watching the movie.
7)Thor: Love and Thunder
(July 8, 2022)
As I mentioned there were exceptions where I liked to watch solo movies of certain superheroes, new Thor movie series, directed by Taika Waititi, is coming at the top of the exceptions list. Although I wasn’t a fan of the Thor movies released in the early 2010s, Thor: Ragnarok(2017) completely turned my perspective to solo superhero movies. Thor: Ragnarok was extremely fun to watch and due to the movie wasn’t taking itself too seriously, it makes it funnier to watch it. As a result, I am expecting no less than Thor: Ragnarok from Thor: Love and Thunder. After 9 years, we’ll finally see Natalie Portman in a Thor movie. Obviously, “Thor: Love and Thunder” is one of the most expected superhero movies to watch for me.
6)Disappointment Blvd.
(TBD)
Although we don’t know many things about the movie yet, Disappointment Blvd. is one of the most hyped movies in 2022. Disappointment Blvd. is about a successful entrepreneur’s life and is expected to focus on the aspects of money and the ridiculous things made for money. The movie is a comedy-thriller directed by Ari Aster, as we can remember him from Midsommar and starring by Joaquin Phoenix.
5)The Northman
(April 22, 2022)
Directed by Robert Eggers, as we can remember him from the Lighthouse movie, The Northman is one of the most anticipated movies of 2022. Starring by Alexander Skarsgård, Nicole Kidman, Claes Bang, Ethan Hawke, and Anna Taylor-Joy, The Northman will give us a story about Viking Prince Amleth’s mission of taking his father’s revenge. The scenario is written by the collaboration of Robert Eggers and Sjón, an Icelandic poet. I am really looking forward to watching the movie because I haven’t seen a great movie about Vikings for a long time, if I don’t count How to Train Your Dragon, also, the Northman has a really strong cast so let’s see what happens on April 22.
4)Killers of the Flower Moon
(November 2022)
Based on the best-selling 2017 non-fiction book Killers of the Flower Moon: The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI by David Grann, directed and produced by Martin Scorsese, without a doubt, Killers of the Flower Moon is one of the most ambitious movies of 2022. Starring by Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro, Killers of the Flower Moon will tell us a story about a series of murders that occurred after the discovery of oil in Osage Nation(Oklahoma). I am really excited about the movie because I haven’t seen Leonardo DiCaprio and Martin Scorsese for a long time. We’ve seen this duo together in movies like Shutter Island, The Wolf of Wallstreet, The Departed, and The Gangs of New York, which were all amazingly successful and popular movies.
3)Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse(Part One)
(October 7, 2022)
First of all, I’ll not talk about the subject or story of the movie. The Spiderverse(2018) was an amazing and unique movie. Even though Spiderverse seems like just a simple super-hero animation from the outside, it literally captivated its audience by the animation effects they used and the extent of its storyline. Spiderverse was one of the most successful Spiderman movies ever released. The movie was successfully telling how hard is to become a super-hero in your childhood and successfully helps us to understand Spiderman’s burden. Since Spiderverse was a unique movie, it is highly likely that Spiderverse 2 will not be able to match the success of its previous movie. However, my expectations for Spiderverse 2 are really high and I hope they repeat their previous successes.
2)Lightyear
(June 17, 2022)
I don’t know if I mentioned it before but I love watching animation movies. I’ve watched many animation movies in my life and it is extremely hard for me to choose one animation as my favorite. Although I have many favorite animations, Toy Story has a separate place in my animation library. I don’t know why but when I watch Toy Story, I feel really warm and safe and far from the things which make me feel stressed. As a result, I am extremely excited to watch the Lightyear movie because I really missed watching a movie about the Toy Story universe.
As I mentioned before, it is hard for me to say which movie is my favorite animation, because I don’t know either, however, if I have to choose my favorite animation character, it would be Buzz Lightyear. That’s why I am really looking forward to learning the background story of my favorite animation character Buzz Lightyear. As a result, Lightyear is my most anticipated animation movie in 2022.
1)Babylon
(December 25, 2022)
So, we’re finally on the first seed of my list. I don’t even know where to start. After I watched La La Land and Whiplash, I was extremely excited to watch the new works of young mastermind Damien Chazelle, only 37 years old and have 2 magnificent movies. When I heard Damien Chazelle will make Babylon with Emma Stone and Brad Pitt(Emma Stone later left the movie due to time conflicts on her schedule as a result Margot Robbie added to the movie instead of Emma Stone), I went literally crazy and so hyped for the movie. Babylon was supposed to release on December 25, 2021, however, due to pandemic, the release date is postponed to December 25, 2022. Finally, we will be able to see the movie this Christmas after a long wait.
Although we don’t know many things about the movie, we know that Babylon will be about Hollywood’s golden time, which is the transition of silent movies to talkies in the 1930s.
Finally, I have to admit, I didn’t watch La La Land or Whiplash in the theaters so I could only watch them years after they were released. However, after I watched them, especially La La Land, I literally fascinated by their beauty. I am not going to lie, even today, I am trying to forget the songs and storyline in La La Land so I can watch it again from scratch. I can surely say La La Land is one of my favorite movies of all time. That’s why I am so hyped for Babylon.
Note: I searched it but I couldn’t find the movie is musical or not, even the plot of the movie is largely from rumors and from Brad Pitt’s one interview. However, I found Babylon will not be a musical movie from unofficial resources.
I hope you all enjoyed reading my blog. Please don’t forget to share it with your friends and press the like button :) Hope to see you in future blogs…
